COVID-19 Update

We continue to provide much needed support and services to our students in this unique and difficult time of crisis.

Where We Are Now

This year has presented more challenges than any of us could have imagined. We have been sheltering in place since March 2020 due to Covid-19, witnessed an historic election, faced unimaginable wildfires, fought for equity and social justice and are seeing the toll these crises are taking on our communities and people across all ages, creeds and cultures.

Through it all, Bridge the Gap College Prep has worked to be as flexible and responsive as possible, guided by the goal of supporting students’ social-emotional wellbeing, sustaining academic success and building confidence amid the many stressors in this extraordinary time.

Covid-19 Program Adaptations

We pivoted our programs online in March when the shelter-in-place order was instated. Our teachers and tutors connect with students remotely to help with lessons and homework, as well as create a safe space for social support and personal connection.

We work closely with the schools to find solutions to engage each student and help them be successful, and a key outcome of those partnerships has been the successful implementation of an in- person Learning Hub for our high school students.

Little Scholars: K - 3rd

We meet over Zoom one night per week and students are paired 1:1 with a volunteer tutor for individualized support.

We use online tools for reading, math and educational games and encourage sharing and social connection to build a trusting relationship. The ‘littles’ love the time spent with their tutors.

Scholars: 4th - 8th

Bridge the Gap teachers have weekly online classes and 1:1 meeting times with students, creating a personalized approach to support and engagement. Our teachers are skilled in providing social/emotional support as a foundation for academic success. Most have scheduled a weekly Volunteer Hour, where students spend time with their tutors.

We’ve added inspired enrichment programming this fall, including interactive Zoom cooking lessons, health education workshops and outdoor hikes.

High School: 9th - 12th

Our Bridge the Gap College Prep high school students are primarily supported remotely by highly qualified teachers and tutors over Zoom. We offer help with specific subjects to best meet individual needs and support students where they are.

For those students who struggle with distance learning, for any number of reasons, we have worked in partnership with Tam High and the community to sponsor an on-site Learning Hub at Bridge the Gap College Prep. Staff supervises small cohorts of students during the school day and assists with the online learning environment. To see the hub in action, please see a recent KTVU segment.
