25 Years of Fighting Against Systemic Racial Injustice

June 2020

In the wake of racially charged murders and videotaped evidence of racial injustices, there are thousands of protests in our country and throughout the world. This unity is a demonstrable cry for positive change and constructive reforms.

Bridge the Gap College Prep welcomes the citizenry who, now more than ever, are coming together with us to show strength in numbers and make a commitment to ending second-class standards and oppression toward people of color. Bridge the Gap College Prep, as a part of the Marin City community for 25 years, stands in solidarity with citizens throughout the country who have been victims to these transgressions for centuries. We are humbled to hope that the young Bridge the Gap College Prep students who have organized peaceful demonstrations, spoken to the press, and convened panels on education gained an iota of their self-confidence from the encouragement they received at Bridge the Gap College Prep.

So, for those Bridge the Gap College Prep students and graduates, we pledge to continue to raise our voices against racial injustices in peaceful expressions and demand accountability. We will continue to project our messages beyond the mission-defined field of education into the areas of our community’s lives that systematically impact the way that we live. We will continue to collaborate with other organizations and individuals to deliver a unified message, knowing that when we speak as one, only then can we put pressure on the policy makers and legislators to address the systemic change needed to heal our wounds and end this violence once and for all.

Thinking of all of the names in the media and the thousands more without a voice, we hear you, we stand with you, and we represent you.

In the wise words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
